June Wrap Up and July TBR

It’s that time of the month again where I tell you about the books I read and what I thought of them. So, I read 3 books this month and I didn’t enjoy them all. 😬

First book I completed was Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody.

This was a reread in preparation for King of Fools and I’m so happy I decided to read it again. This was one of my favourite books of last year and I still loved it this time around. It once again received a 4/5 stars just because there were some plot points that I just didn’t like.

Next I finished Rogue by Julie Kagawa.

Sadly, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first one (4/5 stars). I found the “love triangle that’s not really a love triangle” to be kind of repetitive and nothing new really came up in regards to the relationships. I mean, our MC is confused about being in love with a human once again in this book and they’re back to the whole “are we or are we not” thing that they went through in Talon. Only change is we are following Dante in this one as well. I think it might just be suffering sequel syndrome and that it will get better, so I’m still continuing on with the series.

Lastly, I read Scythe by Neal Shusterman.

OMG it was great. 5/5 stars. I liked that the book had multiple perspectives and the writing style was simplistic, but still lyrical enough that it made for an interesting story. I also liked the focus on morality and the hope that humans in the future will still have an active moral compass. The themes of compassion and the difference between murder and mercy killings/gleanings were really interesting to explore, with us getting to see both perspectives. It made me wonder what kind of scythe I would be if I was ever chosen to be ordained.

This has been on 2 of my previous TBRs already and I still have yet to read it.

And I will also continue on with Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman and Soldier by Julie Kagawa.

Thank you for reading. Let me know what you plan on reading in July in the comments. Byes 👋
