Hello and welcome back to my blog. Today I’m going to be discussing my January 2021 wrap up and February TBR. But first, let’s get to the statistics.
In January 2021, I read 4 books. Out of those books, 2 were contemporary and 2 were fantasy. I borrowed 2 from the library and I own the other 2.
The first book I read for 2021 was Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles and I gave it 1/5 stars. This was one of my most anticipated books of the year, and I was very disappointed by it. The magic competition was barely even a thing and each show was a bit dull, especially the finale. I will not be continuing on with the series.
Next, I read Always and Forever Lara Jean by Jenny Han and I gave it 3/5 stars. I thought this book was cute, but I had the same issues with this one that I had with the previous one. LJ is bet childish and still has not learned how to communicate with Peter. A lot of the problems they had could have been solved by talking about it, but both parties preferred to bottle up their feelings until it exploded into the same fight they have had before. This is not a relationship that would work in real life.
This was followed by The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and I gave it 5/5 stars. This book was powerful and intense. I really felt like I was in Starr’s shoes and I was constantly afraid for what was going to happen next. It showcases the brutal reality that POC face in the world. The ending was very impactful and honest.
And lastly, I read Queen of Volts by Amanda Foody and I gave it 3/5 stars. The ending of this book felt a bit rushed. So much was going on that some answers were not really provided, even though this book was almost 600 pages long. I liked that we got more perspectives though.
Currently reading: The Black Coats by Colleen Oakes.
February TBR: So far, I have borrowed Angelmage by Garth Nix, Sanctuary by Caryn Lix and Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor from the library. I’ll have to get to those early on. After that, I may try to read Stargazer by Patrick Carman so I can continue on with my 2021 reading challenge.
Thank you for reading! If you’ve read any of these books, leaved your thoughts in the comments. Byes 👋
